You can make dairy-free milk from various keto-friendly items like cashews, Brazil nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, even flax seed! Here’s a collection of dairy-free milk recipes I’ve made in the past.
There are two ways to make dairy-free milk at home. The first is to use a nut milk bag and the second, is with a simple machine that’ll do it for you. Now you’re probably thinking one of two things:
- Why would I want to make my own dairy-free milk? Short answer: you’ll save money, you’ll eat less garbage ingredients, and create less waste.
- Or, I have a nut a nut milk bag. Why would I need a machine for it? Short answer: because nut milk bags are a pain, create a mess everywhere, require a high-powered blender to get the job done, and don’t yield as much milk from the same amount of nut/seed used.
BUT NOT THE ALMOND COW?! This thing is amazing. I’m a believer! It requires just as much nuts or seeds as a milk bag would require, but far less mess and it yields more milk.
And in the case of store-bought milk, 1/2 gallon of unsweetened coconut milk $3.99, and making that same amount of milk in the Almond Cow with 1 cup (100 grams) of shredded coconut costs $1.32.
Making your own milk is easy, inexpensive, and additive-free. You get to control what ingredients go into your milk, and the quality of those ingredients.
