I want...

Trying something new can be scary, overwhelming and downright mortifying.
Unfamiliarity makes our wildly active and fertile imaginations run rampant. The what-ifs start piling up and, before we know it, we have a mental list a mile long of why we can’t move forward with something.

I'm ready!According to studies (like this one), we fear an unknown outcome more than we do a known bad one.
Let me repeat that…
This is stopping us from living our truest, most authentic lives.
Understanding how to get over our fears will dictate whether we live a life of unbounding happiness or one of not-so-awesome, lame sauce, coulda woulda shoulda’s.
Me? I choose a boundless life of happiness, love and fear obliteration.
Forgiveness. Forgive yourself for having the fear (which is usually sparked by a doubt that you have in yourself). Instead of shaming yourself for having it, become an observer of the fear. Where do you think it’s coming from? How did it manifest? What were you doing when it started?
Appreciate The Now. What awesome things have you done in the past that were difficult to get through, but that you did (and ROCKED!)? Pull yourself into the present moment and appreciate all of the awesomely saucey things you’ve accomplished up until this point.
Tap Your Stress Away. Are your fears linked to stress? If so, EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) is a technique that works by releasing blockages within the energy system which are the source of emotional intensity and discomfort. If you’re interested in learning more, I am in LOVE with Nick Ortner’s book, The Tapping Solution and highly suggest giving it a read.
Catch Your Negativity. Writing your fears down on paper will help you see that your fears are catching you in an endless loop of negativity that, if honored, only leads you further down the rabbit hole. Realize that this negativity is not serving you and that it’s time for positivity to be in the drivers seat of your life.
Take Action. Your fear is a fear. It is a thought. It is not real. It is created by your imagination to make reality seem scarier than it is. Pick a fear, maybe a small one at first, and jump forward. You weaken your fears when you take action on them and realize that reality isn’t nearly as bad as your imagination.
If you’re afraid of trying new foods, going to that new yoga studio, having a tough chat with a friend, or going to this or that new country, know that…
Your wild imagination is creating these limiting thoughts.
These limiting thoughts are not real.
You are perfect just the way you are and have ALL the tools you need to move forward with your life.
So, as I sit here at Starbucks in Las Vegas, just 20 minutes before a scary new yoga class, in a scary new city, in a scary new studio, I’m taking a dose of my own advise and taking action on my fears. I’m going to go to that class and weaken those crazy, doubtful thoughts.
One downward dog at a time.
Let’s feast to that!
