Who knew, pickles as buns! Such a great idea, right? And, an even better idea is to serve it alongside a dipping sauce of your choice. I’ve included a dipping sauce recipe that works really great with the little burger bites, but any dressing will do the trick!

Keto-friendly Sauce Options

A lot of us keto folk forget about how amazing high-fat sauces and dressings are to boosting our overall fat intake for the day. They’re easy to find, even easier to make, and help us to hit our fat macro deliciously! Sure, you could enjoy these burgers without the sauce, but you’re keto… you don’t have to eat dry food ever again! Load up the sauce, boost the flavor and revel in the fact that you’ll never have to eat cardboard food again.

There are store-bought keto dressings, and ones that you can make at home. We’ll start with the store-bought variety because there are loads of options out there if you don’t want to make your own.

Like, the Primal Kitchen line of dressings, sauces and marinades, all made with avocado oil, a low-inflammatory oil.

Then, Braggs also makes awesome dressings made with olive oil. And it makes a great marinade, too.

Tessemae’s Creamy Salad Dressings made with high oleic sunflower oil, a super safe oil that won’t cause inflammation like other canola or plant-based oils.

What you don’t want in a store-bought sauce is anything made from canola oil or plant-based oils. Coconut oil, avocado oil, high oleic sunflower oil are all safe options.

Then, we have the homemade options like these 3 keto dressing and sauce recipes and about 20 others in my book, The Keto Diet Cookbook where I give ya recipes for thai dressing, ranch dressing, honey mustard, lemon turmeric marinade, poppyseed dressing, hollandaise, green goddess, Italian, and so much more.

The cool thing about making your own dressings, is you get to control what ingredients go in each. I prefer to make my dressings with refined avocado oil because its tasteless and has a high smoke point so they double as marinades, too. But you could also use olive oil if you’re not cooking with it.

This is my favorite avocado oil.

And, this is my favorite olive oil.

Bite-sized burger pieces without the bun! Sandwiched between slices of pickles and served with a healthy dose of dipping sauce.
Ingredients
Patties
Sauce
For Serving
  • 6 dill pickles, sliced vertically into ½-inch (1.25cm) rounds
  • 2 iceberg lettuce leaves, cut into 1-inch (2.5 cm) pieces

  • 12 toothpicks
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (205°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicon baking mat and set aside.
  3. Place the beef, finely chopped onions, and salt in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until thoroughly combined. Then, roll into small balls about the size of a golf ball. You should be able to make 12 balls in total. Place the completed balls on the prepared baking sheet and press down with your palm slightly so they’re more cookie shaped.
  4. Once all patties are complete, bake in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes or until desired doneness is achieved.
  5. Meanwhile, prepare the sauce by placing all sauce ingredients in a medium-sized bowl. Whisk to combine, transfer to serving ramekins.
  6. When the patties are complete and have cooled slightly, place on top of a dill pickle slice, followed by a piece of lettuce, and a second dill pickle slice. Press a toothpick through the slider and set on a serving plate.
  7. Serve alongside the sauce for dipping and enjoy!
